The Slovene glass fibres and wool market expanded significantly to $X in 2022, growing by 10% against the previous year. In 2022, overseas shipments of glass fibres and glass wool increased by 57% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.7% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, glass fibres and wool exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +98.0% against 2019 indices. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Austria (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibres and wool exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibres and wool exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Argentina (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Austria stood at +6.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (+3.7% per year) and Italy (+1.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for glass fibres and wool exported from Slovenia were Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and Argentina ($X), together comprising 53% of total exports. Italy, the United States, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Ukraine, Poland, Turkey and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +87.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average glass fibres and wool export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -8.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Glass Fibres And Glass Wool
Imports into Slovenia
In 2022, overseas purchases of glass fibres and glass wool increased by 65% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 164%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, glass fibres and wool imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest glass fibres and wool supplier to Slovenia, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibres and wool imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled +13.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+17.8% per year) and Italy (+16.6% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest glass fibres and wool suppliers to Slovenia, together accounting for 67% of total imports. Austria, the UK, Poland, Slovakia, France and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +151.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average glass fibres and wool import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -10.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
