In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Slovene glass in the mass market, when its value decreased by -49% to $X. In general, consumption continues to indicate a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Production of Glass in The Mass in Slovenia

In value terms, glass in the mass production contracted modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 15% against the previous year. In value terms, glass in the mass exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted buoyant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Austria (X tons) was the main destination for glass in the mass exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, glass in the mass exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Austria totaled +2.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+14.2% per year) and Hungary (-11.6% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X) remains the key foreign market for glass in the mass exports from Slovenia, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Austria amounted to +6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+9.4% per year) and Hungary (-2.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average glass in the mass export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 75% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, glass in the mass export price increased by +82.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Slovenia

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of glass in the mass decreased by -7.4% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glass in the mass imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 52%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Austria (X tons) constituted the largest glass in the mass supplier to Slovenia, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, glass in the mass imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), sevenfold. Croatia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Austria stood at +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+0.6% per year) and Croatia (+29.7% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass in the mass to Slovenia, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Croatia, with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Austria stood at +2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+0.8% per year) and Croatia (+38.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average glass in the mass import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 7.9% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
