In 2022, approx. X tons of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals were exported from Slovenia; declining by -63% against 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 207%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, animal guts exports fell notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of animal guts exports from Slovenia, with a combined 76% share of total exports. North Macedonia, Spain, Germany and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +63.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X) remains the key foreign market for guts, bladders and stomachs of animals exports from Slovenia, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Croatia stood at +10.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+3.6% per year) and Austria (-2.6% per year).

The average animal guts export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -17.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 178%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals decreased by -17.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, animal guts imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Austria (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of animal guts imports to Slovenia, together comprising 57% of total imports. Romania, Poland, Croatia and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +56.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Austria ($X) and Croatia ($X) appeared to be the largest animal guts suppliers to Slovenia, together comprising 53% of total imports. Poland, Italy, Denmark and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +55.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average animal guts import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -23.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
