Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Switzerland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of camel and other animal meat exports from Slovenia, together comprising 75% of total exports. Spain, the Netherlands, Croatia and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +106.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Switzerland ($X) remains the key foreign market for meat of camels and other animals exports from Slovenia, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9.2% share.

In 2022, approx. X tons of meat of camels and other animals were imported into Slovenia; standing approx. at 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 113%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Poland (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of camel and other animal meat imports to Slovenia, with a combined 73% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Austria, Slovakia and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +48.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of meat of camels and other animals to Slovenia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland totaled +16.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+6.4% per year) and Spain (+5.4% per year).

Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
