After six years of growth, the Slovene market for mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings decreased by -15.8% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Mixed condiment, sause and seasoning consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 11%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In 2022, exports of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings from Slovenia soared to X tons, increasing by 23% against the year before. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +43.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Croatia (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main destinations of mixed condiment, sause and seasoning exports from Slovenia, together accounting for 39% of total exports. Spain, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ukraine (with a CAGR of +74.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X), Serbia ($X) and Poland ($X) were the largest markets for mixed condiment, sause and seasoning exported from Slovenia worldwide, with a combined 38% share of total exports. Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Spain, France, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Ukraine, Italy and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +74.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, approx. X tons of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings were imported into Slovenia; growing by 7.9% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.6% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Croatia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main suppliers of mixed condiment, sause and seasoning imports to Slovenia, together comprising 54% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Serbia (with a CAGR of +24.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X), Germany ($X) and Serbia ($X) constituted the largest mixed condiment, sause and seasoning suppliers to Slovenia, together accounting for 55% of total imports.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average import price for mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 6.2% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
