In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of network communications equipment, when their volume decreased by -28.6% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 289% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, network communications equipment exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 172% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Estonia (X units), Italy (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main destinations of network communications equipment exports from Slovenia, together accounting for 52% of total exports. Germany, Croatia, Vietnam, Serbia, Sweden, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Moldova and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +188.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for network communications equipment exported from Slovenia were Croatia ($X), Estonia ($X) and Serbia ($X), with a combined 36% share of total exports. Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Vietnam, Sweden and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Among the main countries of destination, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +154.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average network communications equipment export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 20% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to San Marino (+19.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of network communications equipment decreased by -1.9% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In value terms, network communications equipment imports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 28%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of network communications equipment to Slovenia, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, network communications equipment imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X units), more than tenfold. Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +15.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+20.9% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+1.9% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of network communications equipment to Slovenia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 6.1% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +10.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.4% per year) and the United States (+1.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average network communications equipment import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit), while the price for Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
