In 2022, approx. X tons of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip were exported from Slovenia; falling by -25.8% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 168%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-cellular polystyrene film exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 155% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and Serbia (X tons) were the main destinations of non-cellular polystyrene film exports from Slovenia, with a combined 51% share of total exports. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Hungary, Germany and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +328.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X), Italy ($X) and Serbia ($X) were the largest markets for non-cellular polystyrene film exported from Slovenia worldwide, together accounting for 44% of total exports. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Austria, North Macedonia, Belarus, Hungary, the Netherlands, Russia and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.

Among the main countries of destination, Belarus, with a CAGR of +280.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average non-cellular polystyrene film export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of non-cellular polystyrene films, sheets, foil and strip decreased by -8.9% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +7.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-cellular polystyrene film imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 65%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-cellular polystyrene film imports to Slovenia, together comprising 73% of total imports. Portugal, Japan, Poland, Turkey and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +238.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+24.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
