Orthopaedic Appliances Market Size in Slovenia

For the third consecutive year, the Slovene orthopaedic appliances market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 4% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +64.2% against 2018 indices. Orthopaedic appliances consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports from Slovenia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of orthopaedic appliances and splints, when their volume increased by 22% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 195% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, orthopaedic appliances exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 126% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X tons), Austria (X tons) and North Macedonia (X tons) were the main destinations of orthopaedic appliances exports from Slovenia, together accounting for 78% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +110.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Croatia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for orthopaedic appliances and splints exports from Slovenia, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Serbia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by North Macedonia, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Croatia stood at +6.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+4.7% per year) and North Macedonia (+12.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average orthopaedic appliances export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 104%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, the amount of orthopaedic appliances and splints imported into Slovenia expanded slightly to X tons, increasing by 2% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, orthopaedic appliances imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Italy (X tons), France (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of orthopaedic appliances imports to Slovenia, with a combined 60% share of total imports. Germany, the United States, Poland and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +83.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest orthopaedic appliances suppliers to Slovenia were the United States ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 70% share of total imports. Italy, France, Poland and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +84.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average orthopaedic appliances import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
