In 2022, the average yield of pears and quinces in Slovenia surged to X tons per ha, jumping by 117% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average pears and quinces yield reached the peak level at X tons per ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 317% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pears and quinces exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 222%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of pears and quinces exports from Slovenia, with a combined 75% share of total exports. Hungary, Austria, Montenegro and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +79.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Croatia ($X), Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) and Hungary ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for pears and quinces exported from Slovenia worldwide, together comprising 69% of total exports.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +79.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average pears and quinces export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pears and quinces export price increased by +66.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Pears And Quinces Imports
Imports into Slovenia
In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of pears and quinces, when their volume increased by 17% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pears and quinces imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 9.2%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main suppliers of pears and quinces imports to Slovenia, with a combined 59% share of total imports. Serbia, South Africa, Austria, Turkey, Argentina, Spain and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +36.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Austria ($X) appeared to be the largest pears and quinces suppliers to Slovenia, with a combined 56% share of total imports. South Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Turkey, Spain, Argentina and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Turkey, with a CAGR of +35.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average pears and quinces import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -18.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 22%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
