The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. Prepared birds skin production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Slovenia

In 2022, overseas shipments of prepared skins of birds decreased by -4.1% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, prepared birds skin exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons) was the main destination for prepared birds skin exports from Slovenia, with a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, prepared birds skin exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Croatia (X kg), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy stood at +13.4%.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for prepared skins of birds exports from Slovenia, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Croatia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy totaled +20.7%.

Export Prices by Country

The average prepared birds skin export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 19% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, prepared birds skin export price increased by +31.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 52%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+9.4%).

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of prepared skins of birds was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 88%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, prepared birds skin imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 122%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest prepared birds skin supplier to Slovenia, with a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, prepared birds skin imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+57.3% per year) and Germany (+0.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of prepared skins of birds to Slovenia, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 2.6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +9.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+55.3% per year) and Germany (-8.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average prepared birds skin import price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
