In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Slovene market for primary cells and primary batteries, when its value decreased by -36.2% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw noticeable growth. Primary cells and primary batteries consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

The exports peaked at X units in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, primary cells and primary batteries exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 46%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Italy (X units), Germany (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main destinations of primary cells and primary batteries exports from Slovenia, together accounting for 53% of total exports. Morocco, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, Egypt, the Netherlands, Poland, Brazil, Uruguay and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uruguay (with a CAGR of +1,544.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the key foreign market for primary cells and primary batteries exports from Slovenia, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Spain amounted to +57.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+16.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+11.3% per year).

In 2022, the average export price for primary cells and primary batteries amounted to $X per unit, growing by 59% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (+45.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Slovenia

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of primary cells and primary batteries decreased by -45.2% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 82% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, primary cells and primary batteries imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 71%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of primary cells and primary batteries to Slovenia, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, primary cells and primary batteries imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X units), with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+37.3% per year) and Germany (+4.9% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of primary cells and primary batteries to Slovenia, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (+21.3% per year) and Germany (+3.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for primary cells and primary batteries stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 55%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while the price for Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
