The Slovene sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates market contracted remarkably to $X in 2022, waning by -17.6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, showed buoyant growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Exports from Slovenia

In 2022, shipments abroad of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates decreased by -97.5% to X kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a dramatic descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 1,594% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a precipitous shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 635%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Austria (X kg) was the main destination for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Slovenia, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports to Austria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lebanon (X kg), threefold. Serbia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Austria totaled -42.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lebanon (-29.5% per year) and Serbia (+12.2% per year).

In value terms, Austria ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Slovenia, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Austria amounted to +3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (-39.7% per year) and Lebanon (-12.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 125% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 292%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+81.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Sulphides, Polysulphides, Dithionites And Sulphoxylates

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, approx. X tons of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates were imported into Slovenia; reducing by -21.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 180% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +16.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to Slovenia, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), more than tenfold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy stood at +13.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-8.2% per year) and the Netherlands (+94.1% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates suppliers to Slovenia, together accounting for 92% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, which accounted for a further 6.9%.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +93.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 35%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+13.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
