Sulphites Market Size in Slovenia

The Slovene sulphites market declined to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -2.3% against the previous year. In 2022, the amount of sulphites exported from Slovenia dropped notably to X tons, waning by -32.9% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 849% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphites exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 610% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Slovenia, with a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X tons), sixfold. Croatia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bosnia and Herzegovina amounted to +19.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+56.9% per year) and Croatia (-8.4% per year).

In value terms, Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphites exports from Slovenia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Serbia, with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Bosnia and Herzegovina stood at +19.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+75.6% per year) and Serbia (-9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average sulphites export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 72% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+23.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, the amount of sulphites imported into Slovenia declined significantly to X tons, reducing by -26.4% compared with 2021. In general, imports saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphites imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest sulphites supplier to Slovenia, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphites imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy amounted to -4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-6.6% per year) and the Netherlands (+11.3% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphites to Slovenia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+0.1% per year) and Austria (+1.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average sulphites import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+17.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
