Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. After three years of growth, overseas shipments of table linen, knitted or crocheted decreased by -94.3% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 263%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, table linen exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a precipitous decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 383% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X tons) was the main destination for table linen exports from Slovenia, with a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, table linen exports to Croatia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X tons), threefold. Montenegro (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Croatia totaled -2.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (-3.1% per year) and Montenegro (+20.0% per year).

In value terms, Croatia ($X) remains the key foreign market for table linen, knitted or crocheted exports from Slovenia, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Serbia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Croatia amounted to -9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (-3.1% per year) and Canada (-63.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average table linen export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+197.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of table linen, knitted or crocheted decreased by -65.7% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, table linen imports declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 71%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of table linen imports to Slovenia, with a combined 67% share of total imports. Hungary, Italy, Turkey, Austria, Croatia, Poland, Pakistan, Portugal and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +47.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of table linen, knitted or crocheted to Slovenia, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.2% per year) and India (-0.9% per year).

In 2022, the average table linen import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 20% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
