In 2022, the amount of tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives exported from Slovenia fell to X tons, waning by -7.7% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 36%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, vegetable tanning extracts exports fell to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable tanning extracts exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable tanning extracts exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tons), sixfold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy stood at +1.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+42.8% per year) and Belgium (+4.2% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives exports from Slovenia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Italy amounted to +1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+42.1% per year) and Belgium (+4.3% per year).

In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 10%. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, the amount of tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives imported into Slovenia soared to X tons, jumping by 42% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 156%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vegetable tanning extracts imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +13.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest vegetable tanning extracts supplier to Slovenia, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable tanning extracts imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to +11.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+61.4% per year) and Germany (+0.8% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tanning extracts of vegetable origin, tannins and their salts other derivatives to Slovenia, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+55.6% per year) and Germany (+11.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average vegetable tanning extracts import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -15.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 104% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
