In general, exports showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 2,704% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, temporarily preserved vegetable exports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 2,071% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons) was the main destination for temporarily preserved vegetable exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, temporarily preserved vegetable exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Croatia (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy was relatively modest.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for vegetables (temporarily preserved) exports from Slovenia, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Croatia ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy totaled -3.1%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average temporarily preserved vegetable export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 60% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Temporarily Preserved Vegetable Imports
Imports into Slovenia
In 2022, overseas purchases of vegetables (temporarily preserved) increased by 0.9% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, temporarily preserved vegetable imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X tons) was the main supplier of temporarily preserved vegetable to Slovenia, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, temporarily preserved vegetable imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), more than tenfold. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy totaled +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+15.4% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (+53.5% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vegetables (temporarily preserved) to Slovenia, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 6.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Syrian Arab Republic, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy totaled +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+11.7% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (+52.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average temporarily preserved vegetable import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+28.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
