In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of tyres for buses or lorries, when their volume decreased by -10.1% to X units. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, truck and bus tyre exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units) was the main destination for truck and bus tyre exports from Slovenia, accounting for a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, truck and bus tyre exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (X units), sixfold. Croatia (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany stood at +4.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+8.4% per year) and Croatia (-1.3% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for tyres for buses or lorries exports from Slovenia, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Croatia, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +2.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+7.6% per year) and Croatia (-4.3% per year).

The average truck and bus tyre export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight reduction. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Luxembourg ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, approx. X units of tyres for buses or lorries were imported into Slovenia; reducing by -6.2% compared with 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, Turkey (X units) constituted the largest supplier of truck and bus tyre to Slovenia, accounting for a 22% share of total imports. Moreover, truck and bus tyre imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), threefold. Luxembourg (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey stood at +4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+13.9% per year) and Luxembourg (-1.7% per year).

In value terms, the largest truck and bus tyre suppliers to Slovenia were Turkey ($X), Luxembourg ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 34% share of total imports. Vietnam, Poland, Thailand, China, Italy, Slovakia, France, Romania, Hungary and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +93.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average truck and bus tyre import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 8.1%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per unit), while the price for South Africa ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
