Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, tomato ketchup exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 260% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Croatia (X tons) was the main destination for tomato ketchup exports from Slovenia, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, tomato ketchup exports to Croatia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons), with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Croatia totaled +44.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+46.4% per year) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+10.3% per year).

In value terms, Croatia ($X) remains the key foreign market for tomato ketchup and tomato sauces exports from Slovenia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Croatia totaled +47.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bosnia and Herzegovina (+12.7% per year) and Austria (+39.0% per year).

Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 34%. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
