Turkey Meat Market Size in Slovenia

In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in the Slovene turkey meat market, when its value increased by 0.8% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, the average yield of turkey meat in Slovenia rose slightly to X kg per head, growing by 1.8% on the previous year's figure. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +4.5% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 134% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 192%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Croatia (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) were the main destinations of turkey meat exports from Slovenia, with a combined 87% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Croatia (with a CAGR of +88.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($X), Croatia ($X) and Bosnia and Herzegovina ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for turkey meat exported from Slovenia worldwide, with a combined 83% share of total exports.

Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 25%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, purchases abroad of turkey meat increased by 6.7% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, turkey meat imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Hungary (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) were the main suppliers of turkey meat imports to Slovenia, together comprising 81% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of +50.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
