Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 234,894%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 11,962% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons) was the main destination for exports of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp from Slovenia, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, exports of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X tons), more than tenfold. Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.1% share.

In value terms, India ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp exports from Slovenia, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a 2.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to India amounted to +124.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+88.4% per year) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+61.6% per year).

Imports into Slovenia
In 2022, approx. X tons of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp were imported into Slovenia; dropping by -8.5% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Brazil (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp to Slovenia, together comprising 59% of total imports. Sweden, Uruguay, Slovakia, Portugal, Estonia, Finland, Spain, Germany, Belgium and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uruguay (with a CAGR of +102.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for wood pulp, excluding mechanical wood pulp amounted to $X per ton, growing by 25% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 32%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Chile ($X per ton) and Estonia ($X per ton), while the price for Norway ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
