Yoghurt Market Size in Slovenia
The Slovene yoghurt market fell to $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Yoghurt consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, yoghurt production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Slovenia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of yoghurt, when their volume decreased by -0.5% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 73%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, yoghurt exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 99% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Serbia (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of yoghurt exports from Slovenia, together comprising 60% of total exports. Finland, Italy, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +89.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Sweden ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for yoghurt exported from Slovenia worldwide, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Serbia, Finland, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Finland, with a CAGR of +93.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average yoghurt export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.7% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, yoghurt export price increased by +65.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Yoghurt Imports
Imports into Slovenia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of yoghurt decreased by -0.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 5.7%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, yoghurt imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Austria (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) were the main suppliers of yoghurt imports to Slovenia, together accounting for 62% of total imports. Italy, Poland, Greece, Belgium, Slovakia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +109.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Austria ($X), Germany ($X) and Croatia ($X) were the largest yoghurt suppliers to Slovenia, with a combined 59% share of total imports. Italy, Belgium, Poland, Greece, Slovakia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
Greece, with a CAGR of +86.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average yoghurt import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -2.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
