Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Namibia (X tons) was the main destination for bottled water exports from South Africa, with a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, bottled water exports to Namibia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Swaziland (X tons), sixfold. Lesotho (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Namibia amounted to +9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Swaziland (-5.4% per year) and Lesotho (-4.7% per year).
In value terms, Namibia ($X) remains the key foreign market for bottled waters exports from South Africa, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Swaziland ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Namibia amounted to +9.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Swaziland (-5.9% per year) and Kenya (+69.9% per year).

In general, export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zimbabwe (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of bottled waters into South Africa shrank to X tons, with a decrease of -6.6% compared with 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 275% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bottled water imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of bottled water to South Africa, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, bottled water imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), more than tenfold. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.9% share.

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bottled waters to South Africa, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy amounted to +6.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+6.3% per year) and France (-9.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average bottled water import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 216% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
