From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+19.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cashew nut imports into South Africa contracted notably to X tons in 2021, declining by -49.9% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 1,703% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cashew nut imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 11,506% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Mozambique (X tons) constituted the largest cashew nut supplier to South Africa, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, cashew nut imports from Mozambique exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Mozambique totaled +22.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-12.3% per year) and Tanzania (-85.7% per year).
In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cashew nut to South Africa, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Mozambique totaled +40.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-8.3% per year) and Tanzania (-90.3% per year).

The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
