Copper bars, wire and plates imports into South Africa skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, growing by 25% on the year before. Overall, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper bars, wire and plates imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 83% against the previous year.
