Lesotho (X tons) was the main destination for egg product exports from South Africa, with a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, egg product exports to Lesotho exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Zimbabwe (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Mozambique (X tons), with a 3.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Lesotho stood at -9.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zimbabwe (+49.2% per year) and Mozambique (-50.8% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for egg product exported from South Africa were Zimbabwe ($X), Lesotho ($X) and Mozambique ($X), together accounting for 70% of total exports. Nigeria, Seychelles, Ethiopia and Namibia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +75.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average egg product export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 79%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Seychelles (+27.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of egg products, when their volume increased by 72% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 318% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +79.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest egg product suppliers to South Africa were Denmark ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 25%.
Argentina, with a CAGR of +77.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average egg product import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Argentina ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
