There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Namibia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas purchases of electrical insulators were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, electrical insulator imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X units) was the main supplier of electrical insulator to South Africa, accounting for a 95% share of total imports. It was followed by Switzerland (X units), with a 0.4% share of total imports. Sweden (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (-27.1% per year) and Sweden (-26.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of electrical insulators to South Africa, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Switzerland ($X), with a 3.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 2.7% share.
