Lesotho (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Botswana stood at +1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mozambique (+22.2% per year) and Lesotho (-21.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for gravel and crushed stone exported from South Africa were Hong Kong SAR ($X), Botswana ($X) and Mozambique ($X), with a combined 49% share of total exports.
Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +68.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average gravel and crushed stone export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -4.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 35%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, gravel and crushed stone imports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Namibia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of gravel and crushed stone to South Africa, accounting for a 70% share of total imports. Moreover, gravel and crushed stone imports from Namibia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), sevenfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Namibia amounted to -9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+20.9% per year) and China (+5.7% per year).
