The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Namibia (X units), Swaziland (X units) and Lesotho (X units) were the main destinations of non-electric motor handtools exports from South Africa, together comprising 48% of total exports.

In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into South Africa
After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of handtools, hydraulic or with a self-contained non-electric motor decreased by -11.2% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, non-electric motor handtools imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) was the main non-electric motor handtools supplier to South Africa, accounting for a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, non-electric motor handtools imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X units), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +11.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+7.6% per year) and the United States (-22.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of handtools, hydraulic or with a self-contained non-electric motor to South Africa, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+0.8% per year) and the United States (+1.1% per year).

The average non-electric motor handtools import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+30.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
