The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Zimbabwe (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) were the main destinations of hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites exports from South Africa, together accounting for 38% of total exports. Malawi, Botswana, Namibia, Mauritius, Belgium, Angola, Madagascar, Swaziland, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Lesotho lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 52%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +61.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mauritius ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Angola (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 686% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 540%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites to South Africa, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, hypochlorites, chlorites and hypobromites imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 3.6% share.
