Mozambique (X tons) was the main destination for manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from South Africa, with a 41% share of total exports. In value terms, the largest markets for manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exported from South Africa were Mozambique ($X), Swaziland ($X) and Lesotho ($X), together accounting for 66% of total exports.
Mozambique, with a CAGR of +26.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average export price for manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates amounted to $X per ton, waning by -14.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates export price increased by +50.3% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 44%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+23.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into South Africa
In 2021, purchases abroad of manganites, manganates and permanganates, molybdates and tungstates was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons), China (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main suppliers of manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports to South Africa, together accounting for 99% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +168.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the largest manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates suppliers to South Africa, together accounting for 97% of total imports.
