Imports into South Africa
In 2022, overseas purchases of moulds for mineral materials decreased by -33.4% to X units, falling for the sixth consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, mould for mineral materials imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X units), Portugal (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of mould for mineral materials imports to South Africa, together comprising 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United States, India and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +127.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
