Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mali ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Nitrites imports into South Africa soared to X tons in 2021, growing by 21% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 345%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nitrites to South Africa, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, nitrites imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fivefold.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
