The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -15.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 81%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Zambia (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons) and Malawi (X tons) were the main destinations of non-cellular polypropylene film exports from South Africa, together comprising 60% of total exports. Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Mauritius, Tanzania, Togo and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +104.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Zambia ($X), Zimbabwe ($X) and Malawi ($X) constituted the largest markets for non-cellular polypropylene film exported from South Africa worldwide, with a combined 60% share of total exports. In terms of the main countries of destination, the UK, with a CAGR of +81.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average non-cellular polypropylene film export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 32% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Togo (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of non-cellular polypropylene films, sheets, foil and strip were imported into South Africa; increasing by 35% on the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight reduction. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-cellular polypropylene film imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia (X tons), China (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-cellular polypropylene film imports to South Africa, together accounting for 47% of total imports. India, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, the United States, France, Oman, Taiwan (Chinese) and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +34.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), China ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest non-cellular polypropylene film suppliers to South Africa, with a combined 35% share of total imports. India, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Belgium, France, the United States, the Netherlands, Oman and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.
Portugal, with a CAGR of +30.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-cellular polypropylene film import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
