The third position in this ranking was taken by Nigeria (X tons), with an 8.5% share.

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for non-medical x-rays exports from South Africa, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Botswana ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +27.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Botswana (-8.9% per year) and Nigeria (+45.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average non-medical x-ray export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 109%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Tanzania ($X per ton) and Namibia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) and Nigeria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Seychelles (+266.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into South Africa
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of non-medical x-rays increased by 20% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 129% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 37%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The UK (X tons), Italy (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-medical x-ray imports to South Africa, together accounting for 58% of total imports. Germany, the United States, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Malaysia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +77.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest non-medical x-ray suppliers to South Africa were the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Malaysia, the UK, Italy, Russia and Hungary, which together accounted for a further 26%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +135.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average non-medical x-ray import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
