Zimbabwe (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip from South Africa, together comprising 43% of total exports. Swaziland, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Malawi (with a CAGR of +23.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X), Zambia ($X) and Namibia ($X) constituted the largest markets for plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip exported from South Africa worldwide, with a combined 44% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Swaziland, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Nigeria, Botswana, Saudi Arabia and China, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Malawi, with a CAGR of +23.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, when their volume increased by 20% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), India (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of imports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip to South Africa, with a combined 40% share of total imports. Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, Turkey, South Korea, Portugal, Italy, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +30.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 7.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
