Polypropylene in primary forms imports into South Africa dropped rapidly to X tons in 2022, waning by -22.2% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, polypropylene in primary forms imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 5.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Saudi Arabia amounted to +38.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+15.0% per year) and Thailand (-7.7% per year).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of polypropylene in primary forms to South Africa, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 9.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Saudi Arabia amounted to +37.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+16.0% per year) and Thailand (-8.1% per year).
