In 2021, the average potato starch export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 96%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Botswana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest potato starch supplier to South Africa, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, potato starch imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), threefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.1% share.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Germany ($X per ton) and the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
