Exports from South Africa
In 2022, exports of process control, gate, globe and other valves from South Africa amounted to X tons, picking up by 8.4% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of process control, gate, globe and other valves dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Botswana (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of process control, gate, globe and other valves from South Africa, together accounting for 37% of total exports. These countries were followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mozambique, Tanzania, Lesotho, Australia, Malawi, Madagascar and the United States, which together accounted for a further 43%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Madagascar (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), Namibia ($X) and Mozambique ($X) were the largest markets for process control, gate, globe and other valves exported from South Africa worldwide, together comprising 35% of total exports. Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Tanzania, Madagascar, Australia, the United States, Malawi and Lesotho lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Madagascar, with a CAGR of +14.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average export price for process control, gate, globe and other valves amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of process control, gate, globe and other valves increased by 4.3% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of process control, gate, globe and other valves expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest process control, gate, globe and other valves supplier to South Africa, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of process control, gate, globe and other valves from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 5.8% share.

In 2022, the average import price for process control, gate, globe and other valves amounted to $X per ton, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 9.3%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
