In 2021, purchases abroad of refined maize (corn) oil decreased by -35.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 644%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refined maize oil imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 236%. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
