The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-reinforced rubber tubing exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Namibia (X tons), Botswana (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) were the main destinations of non-reinforced rubber tubing exports from South Africa, together accounting for 50% of total exports. These countries were followed by Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Swaziland, Ghana, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania, which together accounted for a further 43%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ghana (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Namibia ($X), Sierra Leone ($X) and Botswana ($X) were the largest markets for non-reinforced rubber tubing exported from South Africa worldwide, together comprising 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Mozambique, Swaziland and Tanzania, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Ghana, with a CAGR of +30.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average non-reinforced rubber tubing export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 28%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Zimbabwe ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ghana (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into South Africa
In 2021, purchases abroad of rubber tubing not reinforced was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-reinforced rubber tubing imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the main suppliers of non-reinforced rubber tubing imports to South Africa, with a combined 58% share of total imports. Germany, India, Turkey, Bahrain, Japan, Italy, the United States and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +10.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Thailand ($X) and China ($X) were the largest non-reinforced rubber tubing suppliers to South Africa, with a combined 52% share of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Thailand, with a CAGR of +17.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average non-reinforced rubber tubing import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -6% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-reinforced rubber tubing import price increased by +64.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
