As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, asphalted paper imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 252% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) was the main supplier of asphalted paper to South Africa, accounting for a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, asphalted paper imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with a 2.4% share.
