Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bracelet exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 191% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Namibia (X units), Mozambique (X units) and Kenya (X units) were the main destinations of bracelet exports from South Africa, together accounting for 55% of total exports. Zambia, Botswana, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, Swaziland, Lesotho, France, Rwanda and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +58.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Namibia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for watch straps, bands and bracelets exports from South Africa, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kenya ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Namibia stood at +1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kenya (+51.9% per year) and Sweden (+64.4% per year).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+33.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into South Africa
In 2022, bracelet imports into South Africa soared to X units, increasing by 25% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 88%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, bracelet imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.6% against 2020 indices. In 2022, China (X units) was the main supplier of bracelet to South Africa, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR (X units), with a 1.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +17.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+1.0% per year) and Austria (-25.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of watch straps, bands and bracelets to South Africa, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 4% share of total imports.
