Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, x-ray apparatus exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 71%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X units), Namibia (X units) and Somalia (X units) were the main destinations of x-ray apparatus exports from South Africa, with a combined 61% share of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire, Congo, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Malawi lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +74.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, x-ray apparatus imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 22%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

The UK (X units), China (X units) and France (X units) were the main suppliers of x-ray apparatus imports to South Africa, with a combined 68% share of total imports.
