The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +85.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 68%. In 2022, Singapore (X tons) represented the main importer of adipic acid, its salts and esters, generating 66% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Indonesia (10%), Malaysia (5.8%) and Vietnam (5.5%).
Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of adipic acid, its salts and esters. At the same time, Indonesia (+8.0%), Vietnam (+7.5%) and Malaysia (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +8.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Thailand (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Indonesia (+4.9 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.4 p.p.) and Malaysia (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore and Thailand saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported adipic acid, its salts and esters in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+12.7% per year) and Thailand (-2.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
