The Southeast Asian aluminium alloy wire market dropped to $X in 2022, which is down by -9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a deep slump. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium alloy wire production contracted modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 4.7%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of aluminium alloy wire decreased by -21.3% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 124%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium alloy wire exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 119%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the main exporter of aluminium alloy wire, committing 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together generating a 28% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium alloy wire exports from Malaysia stood at +13.7%. At the same time, Thailand (+56.4%) and Vietnam (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +56.4% from 2012-2022. While the share of Malaysia (+13 p.p.) and Thailand (+9.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Vietnam (-4.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest aluminium alloy wire supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

In Malaysia, aluminium alloy wire exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+8.3% per year) and Thailand (+39.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of aluminium alloy wire, when their volume decreased by -17.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium alloy wire imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 65%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

Cambodia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 69% of total imports in 2022. Vietnam (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Thailand (10%) and Indonesia (7.4%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +47.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cambodia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 74% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +49.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 14%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
