Aniline Derivatives Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the Southeast Asian aniline derivatives market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total consumption indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -5.6% against 2017 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aniline derivatives production rose significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -39.9% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, shipments abroad of aniline derivatives and their salts increased by 10% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 172%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aniline derivatives exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the main exporter of aniline derivatives and their salts, creating 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), comprising a 23% share of total exports. Indonesia (X kg) held a little share of total exports.

Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aniline derivatives and their salts exports, with a CAGR of -4.1% from 2012 to 2021. Indonesia (-36.1%) and Singapore (-39.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Malaysia increased by +68 percentage points.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest aniline derivatives supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore amounted to -27.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (-13.2% per year) and Indonesia (-45.3% per year).

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 174%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+19.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of aniline derivatives and their salts was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aniline derivatives imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded notable growth. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Vietnam represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 76% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took near 20% share of total imports. Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +17.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+48.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +48.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-2.2%) and Indonesia (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+46 p.p.) and Cambodia (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-9 p.p.) and Indonesia (-38.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aniline derivatives and their salts in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 13% share.

In Vietnam, aniline derivatives imports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (-4.6% per year) and Thailand (+0.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
