Apricot Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

The Southeast Asian apricot market dropped modestly to $X in 2022, reducing by -2% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a slight decrease. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) remains the largest apricot producing country in South-Eastern Asia, comprising approx. 68% of total volume. In 2022, shipments abroad of apricots decreased by -24.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. In value terms, apricot exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent expansion. Vietnam (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) dominates exports structure, together mixing up 97% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +225.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest apricot supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +409.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apricot imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Singapore (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the key importers of apricots in South-Eastern Asia, together reaching approx. 74% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), constituting a 20% share of total imports. Cambodia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
