Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aromatic alcohols exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Singapore (X tons) represented the largest exporter of aromatic alcohols and their derivatives, mixing up 73% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (6.3%). The following exporters - Indonesia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aromatic alcohols exports from Singapore stood at -16.9%. At the same time, Indonesia (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +5.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.7%), Vietnam (-12.2%) and Thailand (-23.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest aromatic alcohols supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 8.2% share.

In Singapore, aromatic alcohols exports plunged by an average annual rate of -14.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-7.6% per year) and Indonesia (+2.9% per year).

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 170% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable increase. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
