The Southeast Asian table-tennis equipment market soared to $X in 2022, rising by 354% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a significant expansion. The total production indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -4.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of articles and equipment for table-tennis decreased by -6.4% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table-tennis equipment exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 186% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 57% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Indonesia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held near 43% share of total exports.

Exports from Singapore decreased at an average annual rate of -1.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+87.5%) and Vietnam (+44.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +87.5% from 2012-2022. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-8.6%) and Malaysia (-11.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Myanmar (+7.2 p.p.), Vietnam (+5 p.p.), Singapore (+4.9 p.p.) and Thailand (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Malaysia (-9.6 p.p.) and Indonesia (-9.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest table-tennis equipment supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Myanmar ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 89% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +107.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 180% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+10.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of articles and equipment for table-tennis, when their volume decreased by -5.2% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table-tennis equipment imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 38%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

The countries with the highest levels of table-tennis equipment imports in 2022 were Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons), together accounting for 97% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +19.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 27%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
