In 2021, the Southeast Asian plaster article market decreased by -1% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, shipments abroad of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster decreased by -3.9% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 13%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plaster article exports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Thailand prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), mixing up a 5.9% share of total exports.

Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster. Indonesia (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand increased by +13 percentage points.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest plaster article supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 4.8% share of total exports.

In Thailand, plaster article exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 8.3% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia stood at $X per ton.

For the fifth consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in purchases abroad of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster, which decreased by -5.9% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plaster article imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of plaster article imports in 2021 were Singapore (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together finishing at 92% of total import. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +20.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and the Philippines ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 62% of total imports. Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +17.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
